Chiu: Animal Adaptations for a Specific Environment

Bactrian Camel, Camelus bactrianus
Location: 42.0647, -71.5810
The humps in the backs of camels are used to store fat, helping the organism prepare for long stretches without food or water, as is common in its natural habitat, the desert.  In addition, the camel's fur provides warmth during cold temperatures in the night and insulation against the daytime heat of the desert.

African Penguin, Spheniscus demersus
Location: 42.3589, -71.0508
The colors of the African Penguin help it to survive in the harsh Antarctic climate.  When swimming, the back of the penguin is black, so that it is difficult for predators to spot from above because it blends into the dark ocean.  From below, the white belly blends into the bright ocean surface.
