This article from the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, written on August 20, 2012, describes the effects of, and attempts to control, the Asian Longhorned Beetle, Anoplophora glabripennis.  The Asian Longhorned Beetle is an introduced species from Asia that has been unintentionally introduced to the United States and other countries.  It feeds on trees such as maple and birch.  In Worcester and its surrounding communities, 32,000 trees have ben lost since August 2008.
