Kruse: Same class but different order

All of the following organisms are birds and are in the class Aves. All of the birds except for the first picture of the Mute Swan were sited on or near the bird feeder in my backyard at the exact location of 42.256596,-71.637109.



This is a Mute Swan, or Cygnus olor. Swans are in the order of Anseriformes, which contains waterfowl. This Mute Swan was sited on Mill Pond at the exact location of  42.262193,-71.640043.


Both of the birds in this picture are in the order Passeriformes, which contains songbirds. The orange bird in the upper half of the picture is a male Baltimore Oriole, or Icterus galbula. The yellow bird in the lower half of this photo is a male American Goldfinch, or Carduelis tristis.



This is a picture of a Mourning Dove, or Zenaida macoura. The Mourning Dove is part of the order Columbiformes, which contains pigeons and doves.


This is a picture of a male Ruby-throated Hummingbird, or Archilochus colubris. Hummingbirds along with swifts are in the order Apodiformes.



This is a picture of a male Downy Woodpecker, or Picoides pubescens. Woodpeckers are in the order Piciformes.
